Gay Nell Phillips Murray

Gay Nell Phillips Murray, 91, of Bristol, TN passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, TN. She was born in Bristol, VA on August 26, 1925, a daughter of the late William Mike Phillips and Nora Rankin Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred B. Murray; two sons, Ted Phillips and Terry Murray; one brother, Roy Phillips; one granddaughter, Shannon Coalson; and best friend, Gay Phillips.She attended Central Baptist Church and also attended services at Edgemont Towers. She was a former employee of Rayless and Heck's Department Stores. After retirement, she was an elder care giver. Gay was a wonderful, loving wife and mother. She was "Mom" to everyone and a dear friend to all who knew her.Gay is survived by her two daughters, Tammy Williams and husband Edward and Teresa Coalson and husband Rocky; seven grandchildren, Jessica May and husband Robbie, Ben Coalson, Phillip Coalson, Kellie Murray and fiance Corey, Hannah Coalson, Micah Buchanan, and Jonah Buchanan; one great granddaughter, Zoey Murray; former daughters-in-law, Becky Gray, Donna Murray, and Faye Burton; sister-in-law, Elaine Phillips; niece, Christy Testerment; special cousin, Jo Pope; and those she loved like daughters, Peggy Bryan, Penny Avery, and Debra Hutchinson. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Muhammad Ali, nurses at Wellmont Hospice House, and all the nurses and technicians at Bristol Regional Medical Center for all the love and care shown to Gay during her illness.The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:45 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at Blevins Funeral & Cremation Services, 417 Lee St., Bristol, VA. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jack Bowery and Pastor Les Ketron officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016 in Odum Cemetery, Bristol, VA with Pastor Dwayne Locklear officiating. Pallbearers will be Rocky Coalson, Edward Williams, Robert May, Corey Murray, Dirk Hutchinson, and Michael Canter.Read Obituary
