Jim did so much to share the best stories of our region. He was always gracious in giving his time to the ETSU Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Program. By far, the best interviewer in the business. Our thoughts are with you.

Jimmy and I ran around together in high school. One of my memories of him was at Halloween one year. A bunch of us were running around throwing water balloons. I had one left and had my back to the road, heard a car coming and threw it over my shoulder, right into the lap of a pregnant woman. The man driving got out and started chasing me. Jimmy was running right beside me. We finally alluded the guy and was running down main street. Jimmy was not paying attention where he was going, looking back, turned and ran into a No Parking sign. Right between the eyes. Put a big knot on his head and made him cross eyed for awhile. After high school I lost track of Jimmy but met up with him a few times. I always loved to listen for his spot on the news. I saw him at the opening for the Inn at Wise but could not get near to say hello. My heart aches for the family.
