Ada B. Cantrell Black, 99, of Bristol, Tennessee passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at her home. She was born in Bristol, TN on August 7, 1917, a daughter of the late Jess and Minnie Grubb Cantrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Black; a sister, Myrtle Butterworth; and a brother, Jerry Cantrell. Ada loved spending time with her family, walking with her sister, gardening, and cultivating and sharing her beautiful flowers. She loved knitting, crocheting, also all of God's creatures and reading her Bible. She was a member of Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church and retired from Imperial Reading. Ada is survived by her sister, Aileen Rutherford; special niece, Barbara Akers and husband Michael; special nephews, Herschel Rutherford and Noble Cantrell and wife Jan; special great niece, Joan Williams and husband Ron; step daughters, Diane Long and husband Lonnie and Janis Angelini and husband Steve; step granddaughter, Shalimar Summers; step grandson, Jason Long; and special friends, Harry and Sally Hetzel. She also leaves behind many special friends and family. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and physicians at Bristol Regional Medical Center, E. Briggs Allen, Jr. and the staff at Allen Chiropractic, and Dr. John Fred Williams and staff. A special thank you goes to the staff at Wellmont Hospice House. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church, 3012 Lee Hwy., Bristol, VA. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m.at the church with Reverend John Markel and Reverend Laura Plaster officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Monty Ogle, Tim Holdway, Alex Holdway, Lonnie Long and Jason Long. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be sent to the Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund.
