Blaine "Red" Allan Braithwaite, 63, of Bristol, VA passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at his home. He was born in Chicago Heights, IL on September 4, 1954, a son of the late William and Josephine Bish Braithwaite.He was a member of the United States Navy for six years. He received the Distinguished Citizen Award for contributions to the community and was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Vice Commander of American Legion Post 9 Riley Vest of Bluefield, WV, and Fraternal Order of Eagles of Bluefield, WV. He was a government contractor with the ID Badge Program for "Free" Kuwait. His hobbies included listening to music, singing, and dancing. He was an animal lover and an advocate for animal rights.Blaine is survived by his wife, Teresa W. Braithwaite; two daughters, Kyna Beeman and husband Dustin and Megan Simons and husband David; one son, Blaine Allan Braithwaite, II and wife Colleen; one grandson, Joey; five granddaughters, Reagan, Harper, Elliana, Avery, and Everly; four sisters, Sharon K. Murphy and husband Forrest, Martha Buwa and husband Bob, Sue Vahary-Rosenbaum and husband Rosie, and Melinda Eurick; two brothers, Brent Braithwaite and wife Nancy and Bill Braithwaite and wife Janey; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Caris Healthcare for all the love and care shown to Blaine.Arrangements will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to any veterans group of your choice or any animal rights group of your choice.
