Bobby Joe Owens

Bobby Joe Owens, 61, of Bluff City, TN went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Bristol, VA on August 8, 1955, a son of the late Joseph Samuel Owens and Louise Owens Hendricks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joey Owens. He worked for Sullivan County for several years and was a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church in Bluff City, TN. He loved hunting, fishing, Dale Earnhardt, traveling, and watching sci-fi programs. Bobby is survived by his wife, Barbara Owens; two sons, Timothy Mark Goodwin and wife Anita Louise and Christopher John Goodwin all of Bluff City, TN; five grandchildren, Raven Goodwin, Crusell Goodwin, Austin Goodwin, Barbara Byrd and husband Kenneth, and Olivia Goodwin; two great grandchildren, Brantley Goodwin and Braxton Goodwin; two sisters, Sandy Hoxit and Sheri VanNoy; four brothers, Kenneth Owens, Michael Owens, James Owens, and Glenn Owens; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to the employees of Avalon Hospice and Kenneth and David Carr. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Blevins Funeral & Cremation Services, 417 Lee St., Bristol, VA. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Patrick Mitchell and Pastor Kenneth Adkins officiating. The committal service and interment will follow the funeral with family and friends going in procession to Sunrise Cemetery, Bluff City, TN. Pallbearers will be Austin Goodwin, Crusell Goodwin, Kenneth Byrd, Michael Brooks, Steve Hollinshead, and Jeff Manning. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dewey Shaffer, Terry Shaffer, David Carr, and Kenneth Carr. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to Shriners Hospitals For Children, International Headquarters, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
