Charles Harper Powell

Charles Harper Powell, Ph.D, 65, of Bristol, Tenn. passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Wellmont Hospice House. He was born in West Monroe, LA. on January 16, 1950. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Powell. He was a graduate of Tennessee High School and the University of Tennessee. He was a mathematician and devoted his career to developing a new computer language and applications. He loved hiking, nature, Steele's Creek Park, the Appalachian Trail, and the UT Vols. He was active with the Historic Jonesborough Dance Society. Charles is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Margaret Powell of Silver Spring, MD; mother, Jean Harper Powell of Bristol, TN; two brothers, David Powell and wife Jeanna of Kingsport, TN, Bill Powell and wife Judy of Acworth, GA; sister, Mary "Betty" Rouanzion of Bristol, TN; aunt, Aleen Steadman of Kingsport, TN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Gathering of Remembrance will be privately held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Historic Jonesborough Dance Society, P.O.
