Doris Burnette Chafin

Doris Burnette Chafin, 86, passed away on September 29th, 2021, leaving behind this life for the next. Doris joins her late husband DeWitt Clinton Chafin and her late daughter in law Janet Lee Chafin. She was born on October 26th, 1934, in Bristol, TN and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol community. She was a graduate of Tennessee High, was a member of East Bristol Baptist Church, and cared for her lifelong home in Bristol, VA. Doris was the daughter of the late Roberta and Howard Burnette. She is survived by two children, DeWitt “Rusty” Clinton Chafin II and Timothy Howard Chafin, two grandchildren - Katie Chafin-Owens along with her husband Isaac Owens and grandson Clinton Howard Chafin and his longtime girlfriend Morgan O’Quinn. One great grandchild - Cash Easton Owens. Doris leaves behind many who will miss her including Sarahena Wilkerson Scardo and her family, Justin Mutter, and Angie Daniels as well as her family. Doris is also survived by her cherished best friend Betty Willis with whom she shared many wonderful memories. She also leaves behind the many children that she loved to babysit throughout the community. To many, Doris was a second mother. She loved children and one of her joys was babysitting. A short graveside ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021, at Forrest Hills Cemetery on Lee Highway Abingdon VA, at 12:00pm with pastor Dan Birchfield overseeing the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital.Read Obituary
