Eva Faye Manley Gray, 91, of Deatsville, AL passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Charlton Place Assisted Living & Health Care Center. She was born in Abingdon, VA on September 29, 1926, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mattie Watson Mays. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Howard D. Manley and Jack D. Gray and several brothers and sisters, Charlie Mays, Homer Mays, Dan Mays, Frank Mays, Hattie Mays, Mary McCracken, Martha Alexander, and Lydia Cox.Faye is survived by her sons, Mike Manley and wife Elizabeth of Deatsville, AL and Larry Manley of Bluff City, TN; daughter, Tara Foreman and husband Jonathan of Buffalo, NY; grandson, Matthias Manley; granddaughters, Cameron Rowe and Chelsea Rowe; step daughter, Pam Dunkin and husband Bill; two step grandchildren, Kimberly and Will; and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Blevins Funeral & Cremation Services, 417 Lee St., Bristol, VA. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dan Bailey, Minister and Richard Bateman officiating. Years ago when my brother and I and 4 friends were attending the Bristol race, we had to go back to Wytheville to find overnight lodging because everything was booked locally. One year I called the BBB at Bristol and asked if there was any new hotel/motel construction happening. They said no but gave me the number of a B&B in town. The lady there said she was booked full but a lady at her church had expressed an interest in housing visitors and her name was Faye Gray. I called Faye and told her our story and she said she would give it a try. Well, that began a friendship with this special lady that lasted for many years. I am sorry that I am just now learning of her death.

When my dad lost mom, he was very lonely. Luckily he reconnected with Faye. They were lucky to find love a second time. She welcomed us into her family as well. I had never had brothers and a sister before. She loved and took care of my father until his death, of which I was very grateful. She will be remembered as a grandmother to my kids. We will always have our memories of family dinners and holidays.
