Evelyn Jean Payne, 86, of Bristol, VA passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. She was born in Bristol, VA on March 6, 1929, a daughter of the late Edgar H. and Helen M. Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two of her brothers, Edgar H. Bryant and Kenneth J. Bryant.She grew up in Bristol and attended Virginia High School. She was a former employee of Sevier's Laundry and Bristol Sheltered Workshop.Evelyn is survived by her sons, Robbie L. Payne and wife Pamala, Ricky L. Payne, Jimmy D. Payne and wife Donna, Herbie G. Payne and wife Cathy, David J. Payne and his fiance Darlene Pullon, and Danny W. Payne and companion Paul Hodge; numerous grandchildern, great grandchildren and nephews; brother, Billy C. Bryant and wife Sarah; and sister-in-law, Carol Bryant. The family would like to express a special thank you to her friend Peggy Grayson and Dr. William Astin.A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol, VA. Miss Jean will surely be missed. She was the unofficial greeter at Stant Hall. She had a smile and said hello to everyone that came into the lobby. She had a wonderful laugh and a twinkle in her eye.Yes she will be missed.
