Florene Thompson Braxton

October 4, 1931 - January 13, 2022

Florene Braxton, age 90, of Bristol, Virginia, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022. She was a long time resident of Whiteville, NC before moving to Bristol, VA. Florene was an avid reader. She was an outgoing individual who enjoyed traveling and gardening. She loved playing the piano and even taught piano for many years in an elementary school in Savannah, GA. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Florene is preceded in death by her mother Marlie McGlocklin, and her first husband, Wade Braxton. Left to cherish her memory are her lifelong loving companion, Doug Sheaff; daughter, Marcie Baker (Paul); two grandchildren: Marlie Baker and Paul Thomas Baker; and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of his or her choosing in memory of Florene. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Doug Blackley, Eddie Blackley, Nancy Blackley and Donna Blackley for all the kind and compassionate care they gave to the family during their time of need. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 beginning at 10:00 AM at Blevins Funeral Home (417 Lee St. Bristol, VA 24201) with pastor Scott Price officiating.
