George R. Blaylock Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George R. Blaylock passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015. He was born on September 3, 1933 to Orville R. and Mary Hutton Blaylock, both of whom preceded him in death. George graduated from Virginia High School class of 1952. He graduated Bluefield College 1954. He then graduated with his Bachelor's degree from Carson Newman College 1956. His Master's degree was earned at New Orleans Baptist Seminary in May 1961. George was a highly renowned Minister of Music for several different large Baptist churches in the southeast. He also taught at both retreat centers for Southern Baptist, Ridgecrest in the East, and Glorieta in the West. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Phipps Blaylock; three daughters, Lisa Karsner and husband Lee, Susan B. Riley, and Kimberly Strouth; three grandchildren, Jason Karsner and wife Caroline, Erich Karsner, and Jennifer Karsner; one great grandson, Colin Karsner; two brothers, Dr. W. Kenneth Blaylock and wife Eleanor and Reverend Donald Blaylock and wife Phyllis; mother-in-law, Mary Lee Phipps; brother-in-law, Conley Phipps and wife Robin; and special friends and neighbors, Larry and Lisa Haga, Helen Fleenor, and Betty Fox. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Darlene B. Litton. A reception for friends and family will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church. The family would like to say a special thank you to James and Robin of the Wellmont Hospice Care group for their loving care and attention.
