Gladys Anne “Tootie” (Cole) Baijot, 73, passed away during the early morning hours of Monday (May 16, 2022) following an extended illness. Tootie was born on June 22, 1948, in Bristol, VA to the late Luther Martin & Evelyn Isabelle (Leonard) Cole. Tootie enjoyed arts and crafts, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. Tootie was known as “Mamaw” by many nieces and nephews. She was a loving and giving person, always putting others before herself. She was commonly known by others as the “make-do” person. In her younger years Tootie was a member of “The Trinity Heirs”. Tootie was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Tootie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Jerry Glenn Baijot; son, Jerry Glenn Baijot, II; and brother, Alfred “Pete” Cole. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rebecca Baijot; three sisters, Virginia Wright, Sally VanHoy, and Peggy VanHoy & husband George; three brothers, Luther Cole, William Cole & wife Susie, and Hal Cole & wife Pam; bonus daughter, Laura Elizabeth Thomas; several nieces, nephews that considered her Mamaw and a host of friends. The family will greet guests and share memories on Thursday (May 19, 2022) from noon to 2 p.m. at Blevins Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Blevins Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Walter Musgrove officiating. Tootie will be laid to rest at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Committal services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Tutu Project of the Carey Foundation (110 Chestnut Ridge Ridge Road #185 Montcalm, NJ 07645; (201) 785-7974; www.the tutu project.com).
