Janet Greenwell Nunley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Janet Greenwell Nunley, 89, of Bristol, Virginia passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tennessee. She was born in Butler, TN on July 3, 1927, the daughter of the late Sandy and Ethel Greenwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Sandy Greenwell, Jr., Haynes Greenwell, and Jim Greenwell. Mrs. Nunley moved to Elizabethton, TN and married the love of her life, L.D, Nunley, Jr.; they were married for 63 years. She was a devoted mother to Lonnie D. "Chip" Nunley, III of Richmond, VA; Susan Simone Nunley of Bristol, VA; wonderful mother-in-law to Helen Quigley Nunley; adoring and proud grandmother to Lonnie D. "Lon" Nunley, IV of New York City, NY, Elizabeth Moore Nunley of New York City, NY, Cara Greenwell Nunley of Richmond, VA; sister, Phyllis Woodson; special sister-in-law, Arvella Greenwell; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nunley loved her regular bridge games, bridge friends and long standing supper club pals. She was a lifelong member of State Street United Methodist Church and contributed to the many facets of church life. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, family, and friends at the family farm in Holston, VA. She never met a stranger and will be remembered for her exuberance and positive outlook on life. The Graveside Services will be conducted at 9:00 am Monday, November 7, 2016, at Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, VA. The Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 10:30 am Monday, November 7, 2016 at State Street United Methodist Church, Bristol, VA with Rev. Jonathan Jonas officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 8:50 am Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to State Street United Methodist Church, 300 West Valley Drive, Bristol, VA 24201.
