Jean Cabell Norman Bane, 87, passed away on Friday, April 30th, 2021 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN following an extended illness. She was born in Richlands, VA on August 31st, 1933, a daughter of the late Henry Gilbert Norman and Frances Gilmer Jennings Norman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Emmett Hoge Bane Jr. Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She attended King College in her youth, graduating with a bachelors degree in history. She was of the Presbyterian faith attending Central Presbyterian Church most of her adult life. Jean was very active within Central Presbyterian Church serving on the Administration and Staff Committee for many years. She had also been elected to the Presbytery Council by her church family and was an Elder within the church. Jean also served on the Committee on Ministry for Abingdon Presbytery. As for her career, Jean dedicated her life to education, serving as a teacher at Stonewall Jackson Elementary School, The Episcopal Day School, and Sullins Academy. She had also served as the president's executive assistant at King University. Outside of work, Jean was a proud member of The Border Guild TN/VA (Junior League), and the P.E.O. philanthropic organization. She also enjoyed boating on South Holston Lake with her many friends and family, as well as spending time with great friends playing mahjong and hosting supper club. Jean is survived by one son, Emmett Hoge Bane III and wife Trish of Nashville, TN; two daughters, Martha Bane Larimer and husband Charles of Grover, NC, and Elizabeth Bane Frazier of Asheville, NC; one sister, Nancy Ann Norman of Harrisonburg, VA; two grandsons, Matthew Lee Frazier and wife Krysta of Asheville, NC and William Edward Bane and wife Tia of Augusta, GA; two granddaughters, Patsy Corrina Bane and Isabella Raye Bane both of Nashville, TN; one great-granddaughter, Lily Leigh Frazier; one great-grandson, Oliver Lee Fraizer; and lifelong friend, Carolyn Williams of Bristol, VA. A private entombment service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church Columbarium with Reverend Ann Aichinger officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 301 Euclid Ave, Bristol, VA 24201, King University, 1350 King College Road, Bristol, TN 37620, and the American Heart Association, 3101 Browns Mill Road Suite 6, Johnson City, TN 37604.
