Lee Kimball Kovacs

Lee Kimball Kovacs, 92, of Bristol, Virginia passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at Greystone Healthcare Center in Blountville, Tennessee. She was born in Laurel Fork, Virginia on May 10, 1922, a daughter of the late Robert and Georgia Marshall Kimball. Lee received her Associate’s Degree from Virginia Intermont College, her Bachelor’s Degree from East Tennessee State University, her Master’s Degree from University of Tennessee, and completed her Doctoral studies at the University of Virginia. Lee was employed as an International Sales Representative for Mary Grey Hosiery Mills in Bristol, Virginia. In the late 1950’s, she began a teaching career at Virginia High School as an Art and Speech teacher along with volunteering with the Drama department. She then taught Psychology at Virginia Intermont College. In 1969, Lee and husband, Louis, moved to Farmville, Virginia where she became a Psychology Professor and Student Teacher Supervisor at Longwood University. Lee enjoyed working in her art studio creating stained glass art and paintings. She was a master gardener and an animal lover including her horses, peacocks and Hungarian kuvazs dogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Louis Kovacs; a son, Mark Kovacs; a sister, Vada Sexton; and niece, Georgia Lee Sexton. Lee is survived by her son, Michael Kovacs and wife, Kay of Bristol, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Beverly Kovacs of Lockwood, California; grandchildren, Meredith Barlow and husband, Jason, of Bristol, Virginia; Kathryn Waddle and husband, Brian, of Bristol, Virginia; Kevin Kovacs and wife, Summer, of Bristol, Tennessee; Amy Sweet and husband, Steve, of Lockwood, California; Katy Kovacs of Lockwood, California; LindaKay Kovacs of Mount Pleasant, Texas; and Mary Lou Sokolow and husband, Jay, of Knoxville, Tennessee; fourteen great grandchildren; and three nephews. A Gathering of Remembrance will be held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Blevins Funeral & Cremation Services, 417 Lee Street, Bristol, Virginia. Per her request, Lee will be cremated and her ashes will be spread on the grave of her late husband, Dr. Louis Kovacs, in Farmville, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
