Norma Jean Goodman Simpson

July 3, 1939 - January 10, 2017

“My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.” -Psalm 73:26 Norma Jean Goodman Simpson of Bristol, TN, departed her earthly body and ascended into heaven on January 10, 2017. Born in Bristol on July 3, 1939, she married Jimmy Simpson on July 3rd, 1957. They were married for 52 years until he passed in 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Nell and John Goodman, Sr., and sisters Phyllis Barnes and Beverly Stellmach. Left to cherish her memory are Ricky (Lisa) Simpson, Jeff (Tabatha) Simpson, Shana (Sam) Burroughs, Austin (Jessica) Simpson, Brianna Burroughs, Lacey (Justin) Gross, Hannah (Michael) Buckles, Robbie Simpson; brother John Goodman, Jr.; loving niece Quinnell Trujillo; special friends Helen Henderson, Imogene and Herb Riley, Carolyn and David Robinson, and Nick Taylor; four great-grandchildren; many other family members and friends; and her favorite four-legged companion, Chipper. Until her illness kept her away, Norma was a faithful member of Valley Hills Baptist Church and loved her church family. She was devoted to her beloved Bluff City High School Class of 1957 and was instrumental in having the Arthur Wayne Glover Memorial Bridge in Bluff City named in memory of a classmate killed in Vietnam. Ms. Simpson’s family would like to express their gratefulness to her many caregivers at NHC for the wonderful care they took of her, especially Brandy. At her request, a graveside service will held at Glenwood Cemetery on Saturday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. to lay her to rest. Those attending are asked to wear an item of purple in her memory. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to Valley Hills Baptist Church, 155 Cedar Brook Circle, Bristol, TN 37620, in her name.
