Ralph D. Morrison

October 13, 1939 - June 30, 2016

Ralph D. Morrison, 76, of Bristol, VA passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at his home and is now at home with his Father. He was born in Castlewood, VA on October 13, 1939, a son of the late Roy S. and Bannie Taylor Morrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Elery Ellis Elliott; a sister, Betty Ann Morrison; and two brothers, Harold and Dallas Morrison. He lived most of his life in Bristol, VA. He was a former member of Three Springs Baptist Church and attended Highlands Fellowship Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army in the 97th Signal Battalion from 1958 to 1960. Later he worked for Westinghouse for 36 years until his retirement. He loved woodworking, carpentry and his family most of all. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carolyn Morrison; son, Perry Elliott and wife Violet; granddaughters, Christy Gestewitz and husband Daniel and Jessica Elliott, who lived with him and helped take care of him; brothers, Bob Morrison and wife Sue and Bryce Morrison and wife Katheleen; sister, Jerelene Necessary and husband Wilburn; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Blevins Funeral & Cremation Services, 417 Lee St., Bristol, VA. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Roger Ball officiating. The committal service and entombment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel, Bristol, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent in memory of Ralph to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
