Shirley Ann Dunn Pecktol, 83, of Blountville, TN passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 in the Wellmore Nursing Center, Tega Cay, SC. She was born in Abingdon, VA on December 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Hartless Dunn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James F. Pecktol; two brothers, Lewis Dunn and James Dunn; and one sister, Betty Jo Karnes. Shirley enjoyed Tennessee football, gardening, flowers, sewing, and doing volunteer work. She was a member of Windsor Ave Presbyterian Church. Shirley is survived by one niece, Nancy Pressley; five nephews, Jess Dunn, Drew Dunn, Briant Campbell, Barry Campbell, and Byron Campbell; a sister-in-law, Beverly Godsey Dunn; and special friends, Evelyn Morrell, Kim Boyer, Angie Weaver, Becky Carson and Ricky Jenkins. The funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to SBK Humane Society, 380 Massengill Road, Blountville, TN 37617. Shirley is one lady that will always be missed by family and friends. She was our 'hugger' at Windsor Ave. Presbyterian Church, never missing a chance to hug us all. Her smile made our church light up. Our sympathy goes out to all her family members but especially to Briant and his wife who cared for her recently. Also to Rick Jenkins and family. Rick was like a son for many years and was irreplaceable on the farm.
Shirley was my Sunday School teacher first, then my friend. I will always remember her, and her beautiful smile!
I was Shirley and Jim's nurse for 17 years at their primary physician office and i absolutely loved seeing them on my schedule. I knew without a doubt they would have me laughing with the pestering back and forth with each other. They both were precious people and Shirley was the sweetest woman and living angel. I loved them like a second set of parents and hate to hear of their passing but can only imagine how they are entertaining everyone in heaven now. Prayers for the family!
So sorry to hear that my friend of many years has passed away! We used to walk to and from grade school and lots of times from jr high and high school together!! She was a special lady!! Condolences to all her family!!
Losing Shirley breaks my heart . She was always there for me when I needed her most. Her biscuits, her sassiness, our walks and talks about everything under the sun. Every Mother’s Day I would send her a card , “ to someone like a Mother to me”. And she was. I have several reminders of Shirley on my home,Including a beautiful ginger jar, a wooden train set for Christmas, recipes she gave me and photos of us. I will cherish them forever. My condolences to her family and special shout out to Briant, who lovingly cared for her.
A beautiful friend with a beautiful heart. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She was always such an encouragement to us and such a great neighbor for 50 years. See you in heaven my sister-in-Christ.
